The questions players ask most. If yours isn't here, Contact us in the avatar menu reaches a real person.
Can I create a character without being part of a party?
Yes, and the order doesn't matter.
If you have an invite link, open it first and build your character straight into your GM's table. If you don't — you're trying the app out, or your group hasn't started yet — just make a character anyway. It lands in a private holding space of your own, works exactly like any other sheet, and nobody else can see it.
When a link does arrive, open it and pick that character: it moves into the party with everything intact, including its followers. You can also step a character back out of a party later, and it returns to your holding space rather than being deleted.
Do I need my own account if my GM already has one?
Yes — everyone at the table signs in as themselves. Sign-in is passwordless: you enter your email and we send a link, or you use Google or Discord. It's free for players, always, and you can be in as many parties as you like.
How do I switch between light and dark?
Open the avatar menu in the top-right — there's an Appearance block at the bottom with a light / dark / system toggle. "System" follows whatever your phone or computer is set to, including automatic night switching.
The same controls live on Settings → Appearance if you'd rather set it there. Your choice follows your account, so it's the same on your phone and your laptop.
How do I make the text bigger?
Same place — avatar menu → Appearance, the second toggle, or Settings → Appearance. There are three sizes, and they scale the whole interface rather than just the body text, so cards, buttons, and stat blocks grow with it. Worth a try if you're reading a sheet at arm's length in bad table lighting.
Can I hide the dice roller?
Yes. Settings → Character sheet has a Show the dice roller checkbox. Turn it off and the floating button disappears from every character sheet; turn it back on whenever you want it. Handy if your table rolls real dice and the button is just in the way.
Do you track my personal details?
We collect as little as we can, and we don't sell any of it. In short:
- Your email and display name, so you can sign in and your party knows who you are. Sign-in is passwordless, so there's no password to store.
- Your content — characters, notes, and the campaign material you create.
- Standard server logs and a sign-in cookie.
- Aggregate analytics, to see which features get used. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland analytics cookies default to off.
You can take all of it with you, or delete the account entirely, without asking us — Your data walks through both. The full detail on what we collect and why is on the Privacy page.
Who can see my character sheet?
Your GM, and the other members of the party you're in. A character in your own holding space — one that hasn't joined a party — is visible only to you.
One exception: the notes on your Notes tab are yours alone. Only you can read these — not your GM, not the rest of your party. Everything else on the sheet, bonds included, follows the rule above.
Whether other players can edit your sheet, and whether you can upload your own portrait, are settings your GM controls for the whole table.
Can I export my character as a PDF?
Not at this time. It's a fair thing to want — a printed sheet for the table, or a keepsake when a campaign ends — and we'd consider building it if enough people ask.
If you'd use it, say so: avatar menu → Request a feature. Demand is genuinely how we pick what to build next, and a request with a sentence about how you'd use it counts for more than a vote.
My sheet didn't save — what happened?
It almost certainly did. The sheet autosaves as you type; there's no Save button to forget. If a save ever fails you'll see it reported rather than silently dropped. If something does look wrong, avatar menu → Report a bug, and include the version number from the bottom of the page.
Sled Dog holds the sheet so you don't have to. The dice, the rulings, and the good bits stay at the table.
