The Marshal

The Marshal — the bundled class portrait

A natural leader who rallies the steading and binds its people into something greater. The Marshal is the class most connected to things outside their own sheet — the Crew, and the steading itself.

Your Crew are followers

The Crew isn't an abstract stat. In Sled Dog they're entries on your Followers tab, and they behave like every other follower: HP, damage, armour, instinct, cost, and tags.

That matters because of Veteran Crew. Each time you take that move you pick an upgrade, and each upgrade is an edit to the followers themselves:

UpgradeWhat to change
Select 2 new tagsTap ⋯ on the follower, add the tags
Damage die d6 → d8Edit the damage field
Max HP +2 eachEdit each Crew member's HP

You can also re-pick their Instinct and Cost when you take the move. Do it on the follower card, in the same editor.

Give them names as they earn them. A Crew of three named people plays entirely differently from "the crew", and the sheet doesn't care which you do — but the table will.

Inspiration

We Happy Few (from the Luminary background) hands Inspiration to your allies. There's no shared counter for it, so the cleanest way is for each player to note what they're holding in Harm & conditions on their own Stats tab. It's usually spent within the scene.

If the 6- result bites, the disadvantage is on you until you share the hold — worth saying out loud rather than tracking silently.

Your background's grant

  • Scion — adds Veteran Crew to your Moves tab.
  • Penitent — see the background text on your Character tab.
  • Luminary — adds We Happy Few.

The steading is on your Stats tab

Look at the top of the Stats tab: next to Level and XP, you'll see the steading's Fortunes and Prosperity. They're read-only there — your GM tends them on the party's steading page — but they're shown on your sheet because for the Marshal they're never just background.

The rest of the steading (its improvements, its people, its surplus) lives on the party's Steading tab. That's the page to open when you're deciding what Stonetop can afford.

Special possessions

You pick two: weapons of war, chirurgeon's tools, engineer's tools, your personal symbol, scribe's tools, or a distillery. The personal symbol deserves a description in its notes — it's what your Crew follows.

Every Veteran Crew upgrade is an edit on the Followers tab. If you take the move and nothing on your sheet changes, you haven't finished taking it.
